Vic Hyder is a security and privacy professional with international experience in both commercial and government sectors. A combat decorated, career Navy SEAL; founding member and former Chief Operating Officer of Silent Circle; and the current CEO of Blue Coral.
Blue Coral provides specialized physical and cyber security services to select clients. Just prior to retirement from the military, Hyder founded Blue Coral offering tailored security solutions that leverage his problem-solving experience in chaotic and unfamiliar situations. Clients include the likes of Emirates Air, Unified Technologies Corp, Defense Intelligence Agency, Matthew McConaughey, Pit Bull and Tom Cruise.
Silent Circle, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Geneva, delivers encrypted communication tools to businesses and governments in over 130 countries with a truly revolutionary ecosystem of privacy focused software, services, and devices. Makers of Blackphone, the world’s first mobile phone built for privacy. As COO, CMO and Chief Strategy Officer over the course of nearly 5 years, Hyder helped build this tech start-up from a $5M seed to a valuation of $550M creating a new space in telecommunications and privacy.
Commander Hyder served 20 years as a Naval Special Warfare (SEAL) officer with operational and management experience around the world in all environments. He led teams from size 4 to 400 conducting special operations worldwide in direct combat, peace-time diplomacy, and politically sensitive settings. CDR Hyder’s leadership and decision-making skills under the most severe conditions earned him the Silver Star (our nation’s 3rd highest combat award – Afghanistan), Bronze Star (Iraq), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (Haiti), and the Presidential Unit Citation, as well as other various medals and awards.
Some specific military career highlights include commanding one of the first joint special operations teams on the ground in Afghanistan following 9/11; leading a 30-man element in South America’s Tri-Border Area; coordination of combat operations for a 350-man Task Force in Iraq; providing close-in personal security with 8 details for interim Iraqi gov’t leaders in Baghdad; leading a clandestine team in Bosnia hunting persons indicted for war crimes; taking the first military team to Port au Prince in response to Haiti’s 2010 earthquake that killed nearly 300k and displaced over 1.5M; advising U.S. and Jamaican authorities during violent uprisings in Kingston; and, during various contingencies and periods of concern in multiple other nations, serving as the senior DoD or Special Operations representative to U.S. Ambassadors and allies.
A graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, Hyder also holds a master’s degree in Strategic Thinking and Campaign Planning from the highly selective School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His education in business was accelerated via immersion and personal drive.

Career Thoughts

I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to manage and run one of the biggest and most active forums on the Internet dealing with cyber warfare and cyber security – CSFI (The Cyber Security Forum Initiative). With over 16 years of cyber security experience, I continue to actively raise Cyber Warfare/Cyber Security awareness worldwide. I have worked as a Chief Security Engineer for AT&T, where I designed and approved secure networks for MSS. I have also consulted for several governments, military and private institutions on best network security practices throughout my career.

CSFI and its divisions CSFI-CWD (Cyber Warfare Division), CSFI-LPD (Law and Policy Division) and CSFI-WD (Wireless Division) continue to grow and expand with more than 60,000 information security members.

One of my personal goals is to serve our security community to the best of my abilities, in the protection and defense of our American national security interests, the American people, and that of our international partners. I am always ready to serve and to give of my time and skills to help our society with the growing problems we experience in cyberspace. I thank God and my family for the opportunities I have had in life and the most precious of all opportunities, which is the chance to serve others. I love what I do, and I appreciate all the support I have received from friends, family and our CSFI members.
